Welcome to Safe Passage Marine and thank you for the opportunity to present myself and my range of Marine Surveying, Training and Consulting services for boats and yachts. My name is Manny Bohn and I am proud to say I am an Accredited Marine Surveyor® in the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors® (SAMS®). I am also a member of the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) and the International Association of Marine Investigators® (IAMI®). My services are provided for powerboats, sailboats and houseboats. My many satisfied customers include individuals, financial institutions (asset valuation) and insurance companies.
Safe Passage Marine is located in Vonore, Tennessee about twenty-five miles South-Southwest of downtown Knoxville. Our normal service area includes all of eastern Tennessee, Southwestern Virginia, the western Carolina’s, southern Kentucky, northern Georgia and Alabama.

ABOUT ME
Experience
My boating experience started as a Boy Scout in Los Angeles, California. I received merit badges for Motorboating and Small Boat Sailing but getting the award was not nearly as satisfying as the time that I spent out on the water. Being on the water kindled a drive in me to learn everything that I could about all things marine.
While still young I started working on cars for my father’s clients at his Mercedes Benz repair facility which gave me a lot of mechanical experience. Then at the age of sixteen, I received my first payment for helping family friends get their boat up and running. By that time, I had a fairly good knowledge of what I was looking at and I knew how to fix things. I also got involved with some older friends that were racing boats in an organization called IHBA (International Hot Boat Association).
Wrenching, preforming set ups and test running 18’ flatbottom speedboats with 1,200 horsepower of blown Hemi with nitrous oxide will surely make you feel alive! Thankfully, nothing ever went wrong while I was inside these little pieces of plywood and fiberglass but I had fun and I was hooked on the boating industry!
That was over 40 years ago.
Career
In my journey to become a knowledgeable marine surveyor, I have excelled at being a marine mechanic, service manager, salesman, sales manager, yacht broker, general manager, marina operator and a fix-it guy for everything boats, from rectifying service departments losing thousands of dollars a month to setting up and operating marinas and boat sales locations, on all over Florida, and in Tennessee. I have also worked with some leading marine boat manufacturers on product improvements.
I was brought up to Tennessee to open a marina. But I fell in love with the people, the geography and the rhythm of life. So, I stayed.

Pre-Purchase Survey
EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THAT BOAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO BUY!
The Pre-Purchase marine survey provides a detailed inspection of the vessel! This type of survey is the most exhaustive, taking into account not only system and structural issues but also cosmetic items. The Fair Market Value (FMV) is calculated and presented with an explanation on how the value was derived. Everything you need to know to make an informed decision about buying the vessel is presented to you in a comprehensive report that exceeds SAMS content requirements.
Condition & Value (C&V) Survey
IS THE VESSEL A GOOD RISK AND IS IT REALLY WORTH THAT MUCH?
The Condition & Value survey is most commonly requested to satisfy the requirements of an insurance company or financial institution. While overlooking minor cosmetic issues, the survey dwells on the vessel’s current operating condition, safety preparedness and Fair Market Value (FMV) based upon its current condition. Insurance company Underwriters use the findings and FMV of the survey to determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk.
Damage & Claims Survey
FOR COMMERCIAL OR PRIVATE CLIENTS!
Damage Surveys focus on determining the Nature, Cause and Extent of damage to a vessel. While primarily carried out for Insurance Companies, they are also carried out for private individuals when they need the survey to corroborate their claim. This type of survey focuses solely on the damage to the vessel and in almost all cases the vessels condition or value is not considered by the surveyor.
He reports solely on what he sees and his interpretation as to it’s extent, nature and cause.
Training
I can provide single day training sessions that will help you learn to pilot your vessel in a safe and orderly manner. (Half-day sessions may be available dependent upon availability.) During the session I can provide you with an overview of your vessels major systems and how to properly care for her.
