ABOUT ME

Experience

My boating experience started as a Boy Scout in Los Angeles, California. I received merit badges for Motorboating and Small Boat Sailing but getting the award was not nearly as satisfying as the time that I spent out on the water.  Being on the water kindled a drive in me to learn everything that I could about all things marine.

While still young I started working on cars for my father’s clients at his Mercedes Benz repair facility which gave me a lot of mechanical experience. Then at the age of sixteen, I received my first payment for helping family friends get their boat up and running. By that time, I had a fairly good knowledge of what I was looking at and I knew how to fix things. I also got involved with some older friends that were racing boats in an organization called IHBA (International Hot Boat Association).

Wrenching, preforming set ups and test running 18’ flatbottom speedboats with 1,200 horsepower of blown Hemi with nitrous oxide will surely make you feel alive! Thankfully, nothing ever went wrong while I was inside these little pieces of plywood and fiberglass but I had fun and I was hooked on the boating industry!

That was over 40 years ago.

Career

In my journey to become a knowledgeable marine surveyor, I have excelled at being a marine mechanic, service manager, salesman, sales manager, yacht broker, general manager, marina operator and a fix-it guy for everything boats, from rectifying service departments losing thousands of dollars a month to setting up and operating marinas and boat sales locations, on all over Florida, and in Tennessee. I have also worked with some leading marine boat manufacturers on product improvements.

I was brought up to Tennessee to open a marina.  But I fell in love with the people, the geography and the rhythm of life.  So, I stayed.

Work Ethic

At this point in my life with all the managerial, technical and practical experience that I have accumulated so far, I know that I can:

  • Be punctual for our appointment.
  • Care for the vessel better than if it were my own.
  • Maintain my competency by staying current with ABYC standards and attending continuing education courses.
  • Provide you with the most comprehensive inspection of your vessel and its systems.
  • Report the facts and valuation without embellishments or understatements.
  • Provide you with a comprehensive document in a timely manner that will be understood by you, your lender, and your insurance carrier.
  • Assist in your selection of a different surveyor should there be a conflict of interest.
  • Provide this service to you at a reasonable cost.
  • BE YOUR MARINE SURVEYOR!

MY GUARANTEE

Why choose me? I am a professional. I am customer oriented. And I am constantly seeking out ways to improve myself, my product and my skills. If my report is not acceptable to your financial institution or your insurance provider I will work directly with them to address their concerns. If I cannot reasonably satisfy their requirements (It hasn’t happened yet!) I will refund the cost of your survey.

  • Safety will always come first.

  • Customer service will be a priority, before, during and after the survey.

  • I will arrive on-time and prepared with the necessary equipment and clothed in the appropriate attire.

  • I will conduct myself in a professional manner.

  • I will not impose a time limit for your survey.  I will work until the task is completed correctly.

  • If I do not know the answer to a question, I will tell you.  Then I will do the research to find the answer.

  • I will deliver to you a custom narrative report with photographs in a format acceptable to banks and insurance company with every significant finding clearly spelled out.  Recommended repairs and practical suggestions on how to improve a vessel’s safety, reliability or comfort will be included and each survey will provide an estimate of the vessel’s Fair Market Value (FMV) with an explanation as to how that figure was derived.

  • I will use all of the tools at my disposal; Soldboats.com, BUC.com, ABOS and NADA as well as current listings of boats for sale to insure that my Fair Market Value analysis is as accurate as possible.

  • I encourage you to attend the survey and I will do my best to answer any questions you may have as they arise.

  • If you cannot attend, I will contact you after the survey and provide you with a verbal briefing of how the survey went.  Please note, that I often find other issues when reviewing my photographs while writing the report.  They will most often be minor, but the stipulation must be made that the written report is the final word!
